note that there will be plenty of sarcasm in this blog post...
I think Lee and I have finally nailed our nomination for the Parents of the Year Award for 2010 already...
We took the girls to the grocery store today and got the girls to the relative safety of our apartment before getting the groceries out of the car (Lee's job since I was helping the girls scale the stairs). I went down to get a few of the bags and came back up... somehow I didn't see Anna go out the door as I was closing it. So Lee and I are putting away the groceries and I keep hearing a light knocking on the front door... so I finally went to the door and opened it and found Anna standing there with the DVD player remote in her hands... Opps..
Oh that's not enough for an award... ok ok.
Let's see.. last night we ordered dinner in and got the girls some popcorn chicken to eat.. so it arrives and we give them each a couple of pieces to eat (try). Anna takes a bite and her whole body shivered from the heat... thankfully she didn't cry but I felt awful. I had no clue that 1) they were still rather hot and 2) that they had a spicy after taste to them.
Thursday I took the girls to the park with Grandma... Lily was playing in the area with all the ride-on toys and chasing the balls. At one point Lily was playing with a ball and it got away from her and she fell forward tapping her face on the pavement.. she cried but I didn't see any marks on her at all..... well till after naptime on Friday and I noticed a small bruise on her forehead..
Friday Lee had the girls by himself while I went to Curves and then out to do a couple of errands and I got a phone call from him that somehow Lily had gotten ahold of the salt shaker and figured out how to open it and left some nice piles of salt all over the kitchen floor.. She helped Daddy clean it all up though when he got the broom out to clean up after her.
See... Parents of the Year.

Back to the Grind
Lee surprised me over the weekend with a 3 month membership to Curves... so today I went back there to work out for the first time in over 2 years.. The last time I went to Curves to workout was in March of 2008 and I was somewhat hugely pregnant with Anna and Lily. It was so great to be back there... I even ran into an old friend while there and we got a small chance to catch up. I truly can't wait to go back to workout. I had the person there weigh and measure me and I was happy to see that my weight is somewhat down. Hopefully by the time that the 3 months runs out I'll be able to afford to go on my own.

2 years 2 weeks and 1 day old
That's how old the girls are currently..
Their birthday went well. The actual day we had Grandma come over for dinner (Lasagna made by Mommy) and watched Sprout channel to see if our Birthday got mentioned (as far we know the answer is NO). We were supposed to see our Pediatrician the next day to have our 2 year appt but he didn't feel well and took the day off and had to reschedule for today. On the 23rd we had a party with a few friends and family members. It was a fun little party. They got some cool new toys that have tons of parts (so glad that Lee and I went pragmatic and got them a Toy Box to help contain it all) and lots of new clothing. I doubt that I'll need to shop for them till almost Fall if at all.
In between the actual birthday and the party we got some new pictures taken... here are the highlights (our favorites).. (A&L together ; Anna ; Lily )
Like all really terrific parents we got sucked in to buying a package of 9 poses plus the special $9.99 package pose. So we have PLENTY of pictures to distribute to the assorted relatives. I swear that in the future we will not be sucked in this badly.
Some quick stats on the girls..
Anna currently weighs in at 27 lbs 4 oz and is 34.5" tall (grew 3 inches and 3 lbs)
Lily currently weighs in at 25 lbs 4 oz and is 32 3/4" tall (grew 2 inches and 2 lbs)
This is going to make shopping so FUN since Anna will fit most 24m clothing but Lily will fit in 18m for a bit longer... Hopefully we will be hitting a growth spurt sometime soon.

Reflections on Day 728 of parenthood
Since I probably won't make it here Wednesday I thought that I'd do some quick reflections on the past two years since I became a Mommy.
First off.. my word.. these past 2 years have flown by. I still can't believe that these little people are mine. I also can't believe how much they have taught me in the past two years. Like how fast they can get away from me. This is especially true at the park near Grandma's house where there is a BIG slide that has 3 slides all smooshed together. It's really HIGH too..especially to someone who is just under 3 feet tall and shows no fear when climbing (Anna).
Another lesson that I've learned is to watch and keep an eye on the shoes and the socks since they can go flying when the girls (Lily especially) are really mad. I actually had to hold Lily in my arms a couple of weeks ago while at the park as I searched the entire park for her shoe that she had decided to take off. We did find it but I was majorly stressing over it.
I sometimes have fantasies about what my life would be like if there were only 1 little person in my life (and yes I am jealous of the mommies that have 1 kid at a time) but I wouldn't trade either one of my girls for anything. I LOVE listening to their "conversations" when they are playing with each other (ok near each other) and when they are in their cribs going to sleep or just waking up. It's so freaking cute when they spontaneously give each other a hug or a kiss.
I am still amazed at my girls and how resilient I am (and have had to become) when it comes to everything about them and how much we've been through as a family to get to this point. I won't lie and say that it's been easy to be their mom but it's definitely been interesting to say the least.
By the way... I did the math to figure out the number above since we are 2 days away from age 2.

Hi there again
Yes I've been MIA lately here... sorry.. I have 2 kids that are about to turn 2 next week and they keep me pretty much hopping lately. Plus I've been knitting the sock. I made it to 7" this week (go Me). Time to call up the person who is teaching me and tell her I'm ready for the next part.
Some cute kid-isms of late:
Anna: (after attempting to slide down a 2 step stool and finding herself on the floor) What happened?
Anna: (after climbing the stairs to daycare without me after I told her to sit on the stairs while I got Lily out of the car) Hooray Anna !!
Lily: I peed.. (big smile on her face)
Me: Ok girls time to get out of the tub. the water is all gone
Lily: (pees in the now empty tub)
Anna : How are you?
Anna: Wait Wait
Lily: Caillou (this one must be at top decibel while watching Caillou) That's Me!
Anna or Lily (while watching Sid the Science Kid) : Friends!!!
What else???? Well I'm getting ready for my second ever Mother's Day 5K road race on Mother's Day. Last year was the first time I'd ever run in it and I had never ran before it. Even though I've been running in a few races since and even joined the local running club, I am so unprepared for this race. Hopefully I'll have a better time than last year which was at least 45 minutes. At least this year I know the route and where to go..
I'm also in the midst of planning a Birthday Party for Anna and Lily's Second Birthday. Originally I was going to go with a Rubber Ducky theme but then I realized that the girls would probably like an Elmo cake and theme instead. So we'll be doing that instead. I already have the cake pan and just need to get the party supplies.
I'll post pictures after we have the party.

Sock it to me
I started knitting a pair of socks approximately 2 weeks ago.. It's slow going especially since I kept losing stitches all over the place but I think I have finally conquered that little bump in the road. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I had won the lessons at the auction last year and kept putting off starting them... if I had known how fun they were going to be I might have tried to get to them earlier.
In other somewhat related news... Lily is showing signs that she might follow in Mommy's footsteps and knit someday. I'm forever finding her in my stash of knitting books and going through them... maybe she just likes the pictures.

Totally Random Stuff
Not sure what to really say but I feel the need to blog tonight..
Easter went basically well. The girls got nice baskets from Grandma and their Cousins for Easter this year. As per usual not much that they'd actually enjoy but tons that Lee and I would (at least from Grandma). My brother was nice to me and played with the girls and helped me with them quite a bit.
Lee and I took the girls to the park at Lake Quanapowitt on Saturday since it was such a nice day. We got totally surprised while there when the Easter Bunny showed up. Lily's reaction was priceless... I wish we'd had the video camera with us.. at first she ran towards the bunny and then realized that the bunny was HUGE and stopped quickly maybe 3 feet from him or her. Anna on the other hand didn't mind getting close to the bunny but stopped within a foot from the bunny.
I started working on knitting my first pair of socks today. The lessons are from last year's church auction. I feel like it took me forever to get to the point where I could start them and my teacher was very patient with me while I was learning how to work with double pointed needles. Once I got started working on them, it seems to be somewhat easy to do so far. We'll see how I feel about the ease of knitting them once I get into the heart of them and have to work on the heel flap and turning the heel.
